Mark it down. On March 15, 2023 half of the lights on MacArthur Drive were turned on.
For years the greater Orange Community has asked for lights on the busy six lane road following several accidents where pedestrians and at least one man on a bicycle were killed at night.
A couple of years ago TxDOT started putting the light poles up but they stood there for sometime without being turned on. One city councilman said it was possibly because agreements had to be made with who was paying for the electricity because the north side of the lights were on the Pinehurst side and the south side lights were in West Orange. The lights were turned on on the south side. MacArthur Drive is also known as State Highway 87.
