
Born on April 28, 1938, in Beaumont, Texas, Leon was the son of the late Lloyd Rodgers and Ruth (Rials) Rodgers. From an early age, Leon developed a love for music, which would shape both his career and his life’s passion. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Lamar University and later pursued a master’s degree in Education Administration from Sam Houston State University.
Leon devoted his career to education, teaching and mentoring students in several local schools across Southeast Texas, including Vidor, Bridge City, Little Cypress-Mauriceville (LCM), and South Park. Known for his tireless work ethic and commitment to his students, he left a lasting impact on the communities he served.
Outside the classroom, Leon was a true outdoorsman. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who cherished his time in nature. He also believed in staying active and busy, a reflection of his energetic and dedicated spirit.
On November 20, 1962, Leon married the love of his life, Linda Rodgers. They shared 56 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and partnership until her passing.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ruth Rodgers; his beloved wife, Linda Rodgers; his brother, David Rodgers; and his sister, Darlene Fountain.
He is survived by his brother, John Rodgers and wife Sharon; nieces and nephews Stacey Gardner and husband Harold, Ron Fountain and wife Cristi, Regina Nicholas and husband Chris, Adam Rodgers and wife Tisha, and Telina Fountain; sister-in-law Becky Waterford and husband Joe; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Leon’s life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Leon are welcome to attend and share memories.
Leon was a beloved husband, brother, uncle, educator, and friend. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his devotion to family, his passion for teaching, and his unwavering love for the outdoors.
