Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5, six Little Cypress-Mauriceville Child Nutrition Employees attended Region 5’s “Meal Appeal University,” a hands-on culinary experience with 5 different Chefs.
The Chefs taught participants how to work with whole grains, fresh veggies, knife skills and spices and gave them ideas for presentation.
LCM schools will be growing fresh herbs for use in meal preparation next year. According to Child Nutrition Director Suzanne Magee, “We were each given a set of amazing knives, cutting board, herb starter plant, chef uniform & hat. We even had a class in food photography. All these tools and our new skills will be used in our LCM kitchens.”
Region 5 was given a grant that provided the training for these and approximately 100 other Child Nutrition Professionals from Southeast Texas.
LCM’s participants were, from left to right, Pam Seastrunk and Beverly Picard – LCMHS cafe, Sheila Whatley Mauriceville Cafe, Jeanie Pierce Little Cypress Elementary cafe, Ruby Westbrook – Mauriceville Café and Director Suzanne Magee.

I am so glad they attended this training. My children sometimes come home complaining about the food served. The food on those trays look amazing! Makes me hungry!
