457 teams took over Lake Hartwell in South Carolina for two days in the Bassmaster High School Championship but only the top 12 got to fish on Championship Saturday.
One of those teams was LCM’s Slade Nunnally and Jacob Longlois who earned All-American status earlier this year. Jacob’s dad, Jeff, is their captain.
The announcement came with a little bit of drama as the Bassmaster computers went down with the duo already weighing in but there were several teams behind them that were in the mix. After going old school with paper and pencil to finish the weigh-in, they got the call that they were in.
The boys went into the day in eighth place and after a three fish total of 6-6 that’s where they finished. It was obviously a tougher day as only three of the twelve turned in a better weight than they did in Day Two.
Nunnally/Longlois had a three day total 25-4. The winning stringer came from Michell Robinson/Cody Abbott from South Carolina who caught a whopping 12-5 on their home lake for a total of 33-3.
LCM Bass Team Coach/Supervisor/Head Cheerleader Nellie Miller said, “It was a cloudy today after two days of sunshine and it changed the bite a little. They were fishing in 10-35′ of water trying to find the bigger fish.”
It has been an incredible season for the two and they’ll be back on the water together next season representing the Bears.
