Five Orange County schools will be getting grants from the Laura Bush Foundation to America’s Libraries to help replace books lost to the Tropical Storm Harvey flood. The foundation will be giving a total of $850,000 to 17 schools affected by Harvey.
The individual grants will range from $1,500 to $70,000.
The local schools are:
Mauriceville Elementary
Little Cypress Elementary
Orangefield Elementary
Vidor Middle School
Oak Forest Elementary in Vidor
The former First Lady was once a school librarian and has long supported reading programs and books. As First Lady of Texas, she visited Mauriceville schools to promote reading.
