Orange police arrested a 62-year-old man for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon Wednesday evening. The assault began after two men were drinking and got into an argument. One pointed a rifle at the other. The rifle discharged during a struggle, but no one was injured.
Police went to the 600 block of Lilac Street in the Roselawn neighborhood at 7:19 p.m. The resident said he and his landlord were drinking. They began arguing about the rent. The tenant said the landlord got a .22 caliber rifle and pointed it toward his head.
The tenant told police he was scared and grabbed the rifle. The two struggled with the gun and it discharged. The tenant managed to get the rifle and he hid it until police arrived.
Danny Lee Hitchcock or Orange was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail.
Police Wednesday morning went to the 1700 block of 17th Street after a man called to report finding a firearm in his driveway. Police took the gun.
Also on Wednesday, a resident on Bruce Lane in the Westmont subdivision reported a burglary of a vehicle.
