
The Annual KOGT Mardi Gras Treasure Hunt is underway!
Daily clues will be released on KOGT Radio and KOGT.com at 6am. The clue will be read at the top and bottom of each hour on KOGT Radio. No digging or climbing is required. You’re looking for an orange colored certificate a little bigger than a postcard. The treasure will be found in the Greater Orange area which includes West Orange, Pinehurst and Little Cypress.
With a movie theme, each clue will lead you in the direction of the prize and each clue will include key words or directions to help you find the certificate. Pay attention to how the clues are read or presented on this page. You may find some helpful hints. Happy Hunting!
CLUE 1: Monday;
A chemical experiment to create a new species that is animal and plant which can thrive in the harshest conditions goes wrong and turns a scientist into a walking vegetable. His new body form does give him unusual abilities which leads a colleague to strive to control him. The new creature’s girlfriend discovers she likes veggies. The movie was followed by one sequel.
CLUE 2: Tuesday;
A Union cavalry officer and a pacifistic military doctor are at loggerheads on a raid into the deep South during the Civil War. Both characters also battle with a captured Southern belle. The movie is based on actual incidents that occurred in Mississippi as part of the Vicksburg campaign of 1863. The film was this famous director’s only feature set during the War Between the States.
CLUE 3: Wednesday;
Today’s movie deals with the many twists and turns for a Vietnam vet who
deals with paralysis following his war injury. He endures even greater
physical and mental ordeals during his rehabilitation before becoming a
strong anti-war activist. The film is based on the real-life story and
autobiography of the main character. It received 8 Academy Award
nominations, winning 2.
CLUE 4: Thursday;
A quintessential comedy-thriller from a director who came to fame with such films. The movie has two classic scenes familiar to most movie goers
including the hero being crop dusted and his literally getting face-to-face
with four famous American presidents. The film’s title is derived from the
direction the hero is to take on an airplane. Which way will you go to find
the treasure certificate?
CLUE 5: Friday;
We close our movie marathon with an academy award winning performance by today’s featured leading actor. Burt Lancaster portrays the title character who is the salesman with the gift of gab who joins an evangelist played by Jean Simmons to preach the rock of salvation. As a different twist this feature will be shown at the local drive-in, be sure to visit the concession stand in the back.
