Monday Russell Kinney reached a plea bargain agreement with the Orange County District Attorney’s office for the 2023 murder of Jenny Baxter. He will receive 40 years in prison.
Kinney was 38 when he was arrested for the murder of Jenny Baxter, who was found under her bed wrapped in plastic, sheets, and a shower curtain at her home in Vidor on March 14, 2023. His driver license said he lived in the community of Votaw in Hardin County. He also had ties to Port Arthur.
Baxter and Kinney were reportedly dating. Neighbors told investigators that although they had seen Kinney around the home at Denbow’s Trailer Park, they had not seen Baxter since Christmas. Kinney was cashing her disability checks and he was also pretending to be her on Facebook. A welfare check call is what brought authorities to check out her residence.
Assistant DA Krispin Walker Winfree said they believe Baxter, 46, had been dead for over a month when she was found. She had been in a wheelchair after suffering a brain injury. She supposedly met Kinney online and he began looking after her. The actual cause of death is still not known.
