The rumors are true that a Kentucky Fried Chicken is coming back to the area.
KFC as they’re known now is about to start building off of MacArthur Drive in West Orange, directly in front of Robert’s Body Shop and next to AA Muffler.
Orange used to have a KFC off Green Ave. years ago, across the street from the football field at West Orange-Stark Middle School. The Kordie family from Orange owned it from 1966-86 and it closed in the early 2000’s.
West Orange is also getting a Dollar General Store. The store will be next door to the West Orange City Hall between Western and Austin Ave.
The building (below) currently on the property will be torn down. The building was a church before becoming Dr. LeBlanc’s office. LeBlanc’s son, Nolan, also had his law practice there at one time.
Land has been cleared for some time on the northwest corner of the FM 105 and Hwy. 87 intersection.
WO Code Enforcement Officer Dean Fuller confirmed it is going to be a convenience store.
The store would mean three convenience stores in less than two blocks with the new store that opened recently at the corner of Western and Foreman Rd. in what is referred to as the “Chevron Effect.” Chevron has not “officially” announced their expansion in the nearby area but many aren’t waiting around for the ribbon cutting.
No time table has been set on any of the projects according to Fuller.
Orange County Economic Development Director Jessica Hill said she’s excited about the new retail opportunities. “Our local officials have put in the work and have done a great job to bring new growth to the area,” she said. “2020 ought to be an exciting year in Orange County.”
Stage will be leaving Pinehurst. Located off MacArthur Drive, Stage has been advertising this Friday as “Stage’s Last Black Friday Sale.”
Some under performing Stage stores will be closing for good while others will be rebranded under the name Gordman’s. That is what is expected to happen in Pinehurst according to city administrator Robbie Hood.
There are three Gordman’s around the Houston city limits and one in Sulphur Springs.
Gordman’s are categorized as “off-price stores” defined as retailers who provide high quality goods at cheaper prices. They usually sell second-hand factory goods, off season items, etc. Similar to a TJ Maxx or Stein-Mart.
As for HEB, Hood says he has no reason to believe they’re not coming to Pinehurst. Plans are still in place for the store to be located across the street from Granger Chevrolet on MacArthur. The last word from HEB was the plans were moved back since many stores were damaged by Tropical Storm Harvey.
