Kenneth Robert Upshaw, age 93, of Hallandale, Florida, formerly of Orange, Texas, passed away on January 10, 2025, in Pembroke Pines, Florida. A memorial service honoring Kenneth will be held at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Dorman Funeral Home.
Kenneth was born by mid-wives in a farmhouse in Spearsville, LA, on November 19, 1931 to William and Nora Upshaw. He grew up happily with his siblings and parents and had a wonderful childhood even though it was during the depression. After graduating high school he worked at the local gas station. The Korean War broke out, and since he was 18, he was terrified of being drafted. So he enlisted in the Air Force. After serving for three years, he was discharged and moved to Arkansas to work in the Refineries that were opening up. He met the love of his life, Barbara Dickson. They were married and relocated to Orange, Texas where he became employed with the Firestone Chemical Company until he retired 38 years later. During that time they raised their son together.
Kenneth was a severely dedicated husband and father, whose entire life revolved around his family. He loved to fish and camp. The family loved to go to their camp house on Lake Sam Rayburn every weekend. Hanging out with his family and friends at a fish fry was his favorite pastime. His Bar B Que was the best.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sister, Emma Lee Burns and his brother James Upshaw.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son Carlton Upshaw and his sister Mary Rhodes.
A memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM at Dorman Funeral Home with a visitation to start at 1:00PM.
