School trustees in Bridge City approved Tuesday offering a contract to Dr. Mike Kelly to serve as superintendent. Kelly who currently serves as the superintendent of the Valley Mills School District was earlier named the lone finalist to replace Todd Lintzen who is retiring as the Bridge City Schools’ superintendent.
Until Dr. Kelly takes over April 9, Gina Mannino the assistant superintendent in Bridge City was appointed to serve as the interim superintendent. Mannino has served the Bridge City schools in multiple capacities including the last 15 years as the assistant superintendent.
Mannino is excited about being appointed the interim superintendent. “I’m honored to be able to serve in this capacity for a few weeks to help with the transition between Mr. Lintzen who is retired and our new superintendent Dr. Kelly. It’s just an opportunity for me to continue with the processes and procedures that our district has in place for success for our students and staff,” Mannino said.
The school board approved a new mask policy concerning the current Coronavirus pandemic. Effective immediately students and staff may choose whether or not to wear a mask inside school property.
The mask wearing mandate would be reinstituted if five percent of the district population, students and staff, were diagnosed with COVID-19. Mannino keeps district statistics for the Coronavirus and said the numbers are currently much lower than five percent.
