Katherine Patten LaChance, 55, of Orange, passed away on April 29, 2021.
A private ceremony will be held for loved ones in the coming days. Katherine passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a short illness. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Adopt a Classroom or Southeast Texas Hospice in her name.
Katherine was born in Orange, Texas, on January 23, 1966 to Jack and Betty Patten. Katherine was a graduate of West Orange Stark High School and Lamar University. Katherine dedicated 17 years of her life to teaching math at St. Mary’s Catholic School, West Orange ISD, Orangefield ISD, and Vidor ISD. As a testament to her expertise and care in the classroom, Katherine co-wrote the Algebra Readiness Builders workbook series.
Emily Dickinson wrote, “That it will never come again / Is what makes life so sweet.” Katherine lived her life understanding this deeply. She touched so many lives as a mother, sister, daughter, friend, and educator. The happiness and wisdom she brought to others will not be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her father Jack Patten and her brothers David and Gary. She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Cliff LaChance; her children, Christopher LaChance, Marianne LaChance-White and husband Alex; her mother, Betty Patten; her sister, Donna Cowart and husband Lloyd; her brothers, John Patten and wife Pam, Charles Patten and wife Shirley, William Patten and wife Traci, and Carl Patten and wife Beth; and many nieces and nephews.
