Joseph Curtis Sonnier, age 88, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. Services, under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 20, 2017, at Dorman Funeral Home, in Orange, Texas, with Pastor Bell officiating. Rite of Committal and Interment will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, in Orange, Texas. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Dorman Funeral Home.
Joseph was born on Tuesday, September 24, 1929, in Crowley, Louisiana to Edeth and Eli Sonnier. When he was a child, his family moved to Orange, Texas, where he then became a lifelong resident. On January 24, 1947, Joseph joined the United States Army and served until June 12, 1948. On January 30, 1951 he joined the United States Air Force and served until December 31, 1951. After his time spent in the service, Joseph went to work for the City of Orange as a surveyor, where he then later retired. When health would permit, he loved spending time with family fishing and making many wonderful memories at the family fish camp on Sabine Lake. For the past 8 years, he had been a proud member of the Knights Of Columbus. Joseph was a good, Christian man and a member of the Catholic Religion.
Joseph is preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; parents, Edeth and Eli Sonnier; sons, Keith Sonnier, Clint Sonnier and Raymond Sonnier.
Joseph is survived by his children, Curtis Sonnier and wife Donna, Richard Sonnier, Donald Sonnier and wife Terry, Michael Sonnier, Jim Staples and Val Staples; brother, LeeRoy Sonnier; 6 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.
