The swearing in ceremony for Mark Jones as the new Precinct Two Constable was held Friday afternoon in the Commissioners Courtroom. Prior to the ceremony, Jones retired after nearly 29 years with the Sheriff’s Office.
Jones was presented a plaque and hugs from many of the deputies he worked with and helped as the department’s training officer. Precinct Two Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn performed the oath of office with Jones.
His first day as constable will be officially Monday, and Jones is grateful for the appointment. He thanked the Commissioners Court, his family, Judge Dunn, Sheriff Merritt, and the other three constables Chris Humble, Mark Philpot, and Lane Mooney. Jones said, “Every one of them gave me a vote of confidence for this position, and I’m just very thankful for them to assist me on this.” Jones also thanked David Cagle’s family for their support and encouragement to accept the position as the constable to replace Cagle who died last month.
