The City of Vidor has announced Rodney Johnson as the new Chief of Police. Johnson has been the interim chief following the departure of Rod Carroll who took the same position at Nederland.
Johnson is a seasoned law enforcement leader. He’s lived in Vidor for 13 years. He is the father of four and his wife also serves the City of Vidor.
The Vidor Police Association said, “Johnson has come up through the ranks, earning the respect of his peers through hard work, integrity, and a genuine commitment to both the department and the community. He understands every level of this profession because he has lived it.
In emergency situations, Rodney’s leadership truly stands out. He communicates clearly, gets accurate information out quickly, and coordinates seamlessly with city staff and partner agencies. His steady approach helps keep everyone informed and focused, ensuring the community and the department stay prepared and supported during critical situations.
Rodney has consistently demonstrated strong administrative leadership through his oversight of the department’s budget, scheduling, and training coordination. He maintains fair and effective scheduling that supports both operational needs and officer well-being.
He recently played a key role in making difficult decisions that were needed to protect and improve the city and our department, particularly amid recent budget challenges. His ability to balance these responsibilities shows his commitment to both the department’s success and the community it serves.”
