Dougher, and Colleen Brucek and husband Rick. John is also survived by a host of loving
sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; cousins, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of workout buddies
and loyal friends.
John joined the U.S. Army immediately upon high school graduation. He is now a Disabled
Veteran. John began his work career with DuPont after leaving the service and retired from the
Orange facility in 2005.
John loved working out at Exygon for 27 years and the camaraderie of the guys, both when they
were working strenuously and when they were laughing at the coffee table. He also was a proud
member of Bridge Point Fellowship, where he and Shirley were members since the church was
started in Bridge City. During his middle years, John also enjoyed fishing and golf; the Dallas
Cowboys, and the Astros. Also of great importance, and adding to his enjoyment of life were
Sunni and Missy, the little Shih Tzus who were fun and adoring companions.
John suffered many serious health issues the last few years of his life – but always found a
reason to hope and smile. His smile and gentle sense of humor; his work ethics and his
faithfulness will always be remembered. He and Shirley put a lot of living and a great, enviable
love into every year, every minute of their life together. He was a wonderful, loving man who will
be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In honor of John’s life and legacy, a memorial service will be held at Bridge Point Fellowship
(2215 Nall St., Port Neches) on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Presiding over this occasion will
be Lance Faulkner, Lead Pastor of BPF and one of John’s two favorite stepsons. Visitation will
begin at 10:30, followed by the service at 11:30. You are invited to join his family in this
celebration of life. Tears and laughter guaranteed.
