John David “Killer” Windham, May 30, 1956 – October 9, 2021
In reference to his Uncle David, his nephew said, “Pretty sure my uncle was cooler than yours.” Just substitute uncle for brother, friend, partner, or biker dude and it still rings true. Killer lived life on his own terms. He could fix anything. His old truck ran out of gas one night, he coasted over the edge of the road along side a ditch and scooped some murky water into an old beer can and poured it in his gas tank. An old farmer was watching and said, “Son, that ain’t gonna work.” David knew if he put just the right amount of water in there it would float the gas up high enough to get him home. And it did. He figured that old farmer had a good tale to tell. David had a 1950 Chevy truck that had a remote starter, way before anyone knew what a remote starter was. So, he created one. Motorcycles, motorcycles, motorcycles-they were a passion. Riding, building, rebuilding, tinkering, polishing, buying, selling, and repairing-he loved them. His favorite was a ’48 Panhead he built from parts. Killer was especially proud of participating in the Biker Toy Run for Buckner’s Children Village with his buddies.
From an early age David was an animal lover. As a young kid, his picture was on the front page of the Orange Leader with his owl, who was wearing a tie. He’d been injured and David nursed him back to health. After the owl came flying squirrels, his mother was a very tolerant woman. There have been many beloved dogs and cats lucky enough to live with Killer. Killer’s house was always the place to be. The door was always open and all were welcome. And the music, when the stereo wasn’t cranking, there he’d be playing the guitar, any and all would come join in. David Killer Windham truly was a Lucky Man.
We love you David and we will see you on the other side.
