Jean Ann Schields, 78 of Chanute, Kansas passed away at her home on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
Jean Ann was born on February 24, 1946 in Humboldt, Kansas to Sheridan and Jeanetta (McCrate) Rhoads. Jean grew up in Humboldt and then moved to Texas where she graduated from West Orange Stark High School. On September 20, 1985 Jean married Elmer Schields Jr. in Miami, Oklahoma. With this union the two blended their families and welcomed their 10 children. After working for 15 years at the DMV in Texas and Chanute, Jean retired and opened Poopenstieners Flea Market which she owned and operated with her husband Elmer for 5 years. During her free time Jean loved to read western novels, she raised and sold rat terriers, and spent countless hours at area garage sales and thrift shops looking for the ultimate bargain.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Sheridan and Jeanetta Rhoads.
Her memory will live on with her husband Elmer Schields Jr., daughters, Lisa Brant, Paula Roberts, Teresa Martin, Vivian Swogar, Nancy Hibbs, Evelyn Schields, and Robin Schields, sons, Neil Schields, Elmer Schields III, and Michael Schields, brothers, Rocky and Eddy Rhoads, 37 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Humboldt at 10:00 am. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
