James Lewis Scott, 84, of Orange, Texas, passed away on November 17, 2024, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2024, at St. Paul Methodist Church in Bridge City, Texas. Officiating will be Reverend Mark Bunch. A reception will follow at St. Paul Methodist Church’s Family Activity Center.
Born in Anson, Texas, on September 26, 1940, he was the son of Oby Dailey Scott and Ruby Glaze Scott. A devoted husband, father, and friend, James leaves behind a legacy of service and community involvement that will be cherished by all who knew him. For years, James dedicated his professional life to Permian Corporation and Occidental Petroleum Corporation, working diligently as a computer programmer in Midland, Texas, Bakersfield, California, and Houston, Texas. His commitment to his work was evident, and following these years, he retired from the Orange County Appraisal District after 14 years of exemplary service in 2005. James also honorably served his country in the Naval Reserve from 1957 to 1960 and then in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963. He was stationed in Baumholder, Germany, for two years, where he contributed to the military with integrity and pride. A lifelong lover of travel, James and his beloved wife Ramona shared many adventures, exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Alaska and Colorado, as well as visiting the historic monuments of Washington, D.C. Together, they created memories that will remain a testament to their enduring partnership. James was a dedicated member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Bridge City, where he worshiped from 1988 until his passing in 2024. His commitment to his faith was demonstrated through his active involvement in the Methodist Men Program, Emmaus Walks, Kairos Prison Ministry, the Mow Team, and various church committees, reflecting his deep belief in service to others. James Lewis Scott’s remarkable life was defined by his unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his faith. He will be remembered fondly for his warmth, kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him. His spirit will continue to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oby and Ruby Scott; and his siblings, W.E. “Gene” Scott, Troy Scott, Jerry Scott, Madilene Bullard, and Laverne Greene.
He is survived by his Loving wife, Ramona Briggs Scott; his daughter, Shanna Scott MacCammond; his stepdaughters, Robin Thibodeaux and partner, Paul Sachitano, and Misty Thurman and husband, Jimmy; his grandchildren, Ian James MacCammond, Sterling Scott MacCammond, Taylor McDonald and husband, Jake, Preslea Thibodeaux, and Luke Thibodeaux; his sisters, Ava McPherson, and Emma Huber, and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Ian James MacCammond, Sterling Scott MacCammond, Taylor McDonald, Preslea Thibodeaux, Luke Thibodeaux, Jimmy Thurman, and Paul Sachitano.
