A celebration of James “Jim” Loran Turner’s life will be 2:00pm, Tuesday,
October 11, 2016 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Holly Springs. Visitation will be Monday, October 10, from 5:00–7:00pm at the Funeral Home.
A native resident of South East Arkansas and longtime Jasper resident, Jim Turner, 91, was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving in World War II. He was ordained in 1962 as a Baptist Minister where he ministered at South Millcreek Baptist in Buna, Hartbury Baptist in Deweyville, First Baptist Church in Hull, First Baptist Church in Hemphill, Pecan Acres Baptist Church in Orangefield, Central Baptist in Vidor, worked with the SBC Lake Ministries and Calvary Baptist in Jasper, Parkway Baptist Church in San Augustine Park, Long Pines Baptist in Broaddus and Bethany Baptist in Colmesneil. Jim worked for The Dr. Pepper bottling company and Jasper Chevrolet for many years. An avid gardener and landscaper, he loved barbecuing, hunting, fishing and enjoyed being a Dallas Cowboys, Houston Rockets and Houston Astros Fan.
Jim is survived by three sons, Dwight Allen Turner & wife Brenda of Buna, James Edwin Turner and Barry Kirk Turner ,both of Jasper; seven grandchildren, Kristen Marie Turner, Joshua Allen & Amanda Turner, Tyler Lloyd Turner, James Barton Turner & wife Litzy, Melanie Ann Barclay & husband Seth, Lydia Danielle Peekins and Timothy Joe Turner; eight great grandchildren, Branson Allen Turner, Dayton Nicole Turner, June Evelyn Turner, Mia Isabella Turner, Andrew Christopher Turner, Jayden James Turner and Elena Leighton Barclay. He was also survived by a host of other family & friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Vada Marie Turner and his parents Myrtle Agnes & James Barton Turner, two sisters Agnes Louise Scott and Johnnie Bob “Bobbye” McIntosh and one brother Rufus Henry Turner.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper.
