
Gary was born in Orange, Texas to Doris Mary Hebert and James Hardy Denmon. He graduated from Stark High School in Orange. Gary married Mary Ellen Gross 28 years ago. He was a devoted husband. Gary had a son, James “Ryan”. He was a loving and caring father. Gary was employed as a union brick mason for many years. He intermittently fought a four-and-a-half-year-long heroic battle against two types of cancer. Gary had many interests including playing his guitar and studying the abundant natural beauty in his Hill Country home surroundings.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mona Denmon. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen, and son, Ryan. Additionally, he is survived by: sisters Becky Rogers and Marilyn Matthews (Bryce); brother David (Penny); granddaughter Ella; niece Lynn Rogers (April) and great-nephew Noah; sisters-in-law Nancy Shaw, as well as her son Ryan, and Cathy Marquette; step daughters Annie Ewing (Patrick Ryan) and Molly Ewing (Akram Al-Turk); step grandchildren Logan Henslee (Miranda), Ashton Henslee, Sami Ewturk, and step great-granddaughter Ava Henslee; as well as numerous cousins.
Gary’s family thanks the following caregivers and their staffs: Sindusha Gudipally, MD (UTMB-Galveston), Muzaffa Qazilbash, MD (MD Anderson-Houston), Paul Shaughnessy, MD and Diana Velez, FNP-BC (Methodist-San Antonio).
For those who wish to make a remembrance they may do so in Gary’s name with the family’s gratitude to Halo House-Houston (halohousefoundation.org) which provides multiple services as well as affordable temporary housing for blood cancer patients and their caregivers. Gary was grateful for Halo House’s loving care during his 2023 stem cell transplant.
