Jackie was born in Orange, Texas on Wednesday, October 27, 1937 to Yolanda Marie (Guidry) and William Authement. Jackie was a lifelong resident of Orange, Texas, with the exception of being a resident of Call, Texas for the last 3 years. He met the love of his life when he came to know Barbara Jeanette Wissing. They were high school sweethearts who married on December 7, 1956. They shared 65 years of marriage and made a lifetime of memories together with their children. Aside from being a coffee lover and a true comedian, Jackie was truly a “Jack of all trades” and a master at them all. He was capable of anything he put his mind to! Jackie enjoyed working with his hands and loved taking on new ventures that included artistry type projects, such as making beautiful and very original handmade knives, letter openers, Bar-B-Que pits and much more. He was a perfectionist who mastered anything he took on. He retired from A. Schulman Dispersion plant after 25 years of service. Following retirement, he worked throughout the country for various construction businesses. He considered himself to be a very blessed man who had all he needed and much more. He had a servant’s heart that allowed him to selflessly work in people’s lives, without saying. He served as a member of the Knights of Columbus throughout his life and was always willing to help those in need.
His children grew up to be well rounded adults who have stayed close in their faith with their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jackie was very proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and his loving wife, Barbara, were long time members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Orange and were founding members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in 1980.
Jackie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and friend who will forever be loved and missed by all who knew him.
Jackie is preceded in death by his parents, William and Yolanda Authement; granddaughter, Christy Authement; brothers, Floyd Authement, James Authement, Jerry Authement and Tommy Authement, as well as his sister, Ruby Gibbens.
