The Invista plant in Orange closed at the end of 2023 and ceased production of hexamethylene diamine (HMD). At the time Francis Murphy, INVISTA president and CEO said, “We appreciate the diligent and innovative work of employees at the Orange site over the years, unfortunately, lower than anticipated growth and an increase in global supply led to this difficult decision.”
Invista has recently announced plans to invest $17 million to reopen its HMD plant in Maitland, Ontario. The company shut down production at the HMD plant, as well as production for another nylon 6,6 raw material, adipic acid, at the site back in 2009. The company says the plant could commence operations in 2025.
