Invista gave notice to 110 employees that they are losing their jobs, according to information KOGT has received. The company announced on October 5 that it would be closing the old adipic acid unit and laying off 75 or more employees.
No official announcement has been made about the numbers. The plant’s website says it has 600 employees and contract workers. The 110 is 18.3 percent of the workforce, more if contract workers are not included.
Invista is part of the original DuPont Sabine River Works company. DuPont sold its fibers division in 2003 to Koch Industries. Adipic acid is a precursor to making nylon. Invista plants, including the one in Victoria, have had layoffs.
The plant earlier this month said the company will help with career assistance for the people who lost their jobs. Some will qualify for severance packages.
