
County Health Inspector James Scales found mostly clean restaurants and food businesses during September. He visited 45 businesses and the lowest score was 83, with none in the 70s. Though only three had perfect scores, most were rated in the high 90s.
The perfect scores went to the Days Inn on Interstate 10 in Orange, Write the Vision Leaning Center in West Orange, and Red Wagon Cafe in Vidor.
Pre-opening inspections with no scores were made at the Star and Crescent Moon Cafe at Shangri La Gardens in Orange, opening after Tropical Storm Harvey Repairs. Also, The Sno-Barn mobile unit in Vidor, and Bullfish in Bridge City.

Burger King, 2508 MacArthur Drive in Pinehurst: 99. Vent-a-Hood and area around fryers needed to be cleaned.
Sonic Drive-In, 2805 MacArthur Drive in West Orange: 88. Foods inside coolers and freezers needed to be covered. Chemicals were stored improperly. Walls were damaged near manager’s desk. Employee had improper jewelry. Area around fryers, Vent-a-Hood, floors, walls, and ceilings needed to be cleaned of old foods and grease. Black mold was growing on wall at three-compartment sink. Walls needed to be cleaned and sanitized. Current Health inspection needed to be posted in front. Inspector recommended “lots of cleaning” and follow-up visits.

Dollar General, 9692 FM 105 in Orangefield: 97. Inspector found lots of spider webs. Shelves inside the reach-in cooler needed to be cleaned of old foods. Floors throughout store needed to be cleaned.

CVS Pharmacey, 290 Strickland Drive in Pinehurst: 94. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Paper towels were needed inside men[‘s restroom. Soap was needed inside women’s restroom. Current food service permit and current health inspection report were not posted in front.
Kim’s Donut Place, 3041 Highway 12 in Vidor: 89. Sausage, boudin, and eggs were not at proper temperatures. No record was kept on the times for keeping sausage, boudin, and eggs at room temperatures. Pipes under the hand-washing station were dripping water. Same pan liners were usedd multiple times to bake kolaches. Sign was needed at hand-washing station.
