So how did our area teams do this school year? It’s a long year so we may forget how successful some of our teams were. So we put together our Team Table that we started last year to see how our local schools performed in team sports.
The number indicates how many rounds in the playoffs that team completed. An asterisk means they were also the district champion. An X means they don’t participate in that sport. In sports like Cross Country, Tennis and Golf, there are team district champions, but they don’t play rounds in the playoffs like football, baseball, basketball.
Our individual State Champions this year all came from the world of Powerlifting, which is not recognized by the UIL. But it doesn’t diminish the gold medal accomplishments by Riley Marlow and Madison Watson of Vidor, Carson Phelps of LCM, and Presley Lackey of Bridge City.
We also want to mention two young ladies that we’ll miss watching. For four years we’ve covered BC’s Nicole Sasser and LCM’s Keylie Washburn as multi-sport athletes. Both will join their schools Top 5 best female athletes list. Thanks for sharing your dedication and talents and good luck in the future to all of the recently graduated student athletes.
