The City of Orange is having a workshop for residents who are interested in getting grants to raise the level of the houses. The workshop is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the Lamar State College-Orange Student Center on Green Avenue.
Interim City Manager Kelvin Knauf told the city council last week representatives from businesses that raise houses will attend to answer questions. Knauf said houses on slab foundations can be raised and the vendors will explain the procedures.
In addition, a grant manager will attend to answer questions about qualifying and applying for grants.
Raising the level of houses is a way to prevent future flooding.
The workshop and grants apply only to people living in the city. More information is available through the Orange Fire Department at 883-1050.
