A citizen Monday night stopped a prowler at gunpoint in woods off Allie Payne Road. Orange police say the captured man is a “person of interest” in dozens of car burglaries in the Little Cypress area.
33-year-old Kevin Scott Miles of Little Cypress was arrested for public intoxication and possession of a crack pipe, both misdemeanors.
Police were called to the 1800 block of Allie Payne Road at 7:24 p.m. A woman said her husband saw a prowler, chased him, and had him at gunpoint at the Donut Palace, the corner of Allie Payne and 16th Street.
According to officers, the man told them he was looking for a gas station. His speech was slurred and his eyes were glassy, leading to his arrest for public intoxication.
Also on Monday, two more car burglaries were reported, one on Black Oak Drive in the Oak Creek Village subdivision and one on Hickory Trails in the Greenway Park subdivision. The two subdivisions are off Meeks Drive and in the same area.
Detective Captain Robert Enmon is asking homeowners or business owners with video surveillance recordings to review them. They should call police if they see anyone on the recordings looking into cars or trying to open cars. The cars being burglarized have been left unlocked.
If someone has a surveillance video of someone suspicious, they should call the OPD Detective Division at 883-1095 so investigators can review it.
