
Orange police arrested a 34-year-old man for armed robbery and are looking for another one in connection with a home invasion Sunday morning. The robbery happened about 7 a.m. at a complex of 10 small houses at the end of Gunstream Lane, which is off of Tulane Road.
The victims, a man and a woman, told Officer B.P. Latiolais that they were asleep when two men came inside. One held a gun on them while the other went through the house gathering items like cell phones, cash, a computer, stereo and a sword. The robbers then left.
Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said a patrol officer spotted the vehicle on Bowling Lane nearby and stopped it. Jules Carpenter of Orange was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail for felony aggravated robbery. Police are searching for the other man.
– A 2006 silver Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck was reported stolen from a house in Orange early Sunday morning. The resident at a house in the 3800 block of Anderson Villa called Orange police about 1 a.m. to report after discovering the pickup was missing.
– On Friday at noon, personnel at the West Orange-Stark alternative center on Park Avenue called police about noon to report that two juveniles took a credit card from a teacher. The two attempted to make an online purchase. The card was recovered.
– Friday morning at 8:30, a woman living on Godfrey Street reported that a window of her car had been broken and the car radio was stolen. Then at 12:50 p.m. Friday, a resident in the 3300 block of North 20th Street reported that three fishing rods and reels worth almost $200 were missing from his living room. And on Friday evening, a resident in the 2100 block of Live Oak Street reported that diamond earrings, plus turquoise earrings and a turquoise ring were missing from a dresser drawer.
– Saturday at 6:18 p.m. police went to DuPont on FM 1006 because of vandalism to a pickup truck. A Groves resident told Officer L.T. Holland that the Ford F-150 truck was parked. The paint was damaged on the passenger side and someone had written with a marker on the passenger window.
– Police believe a 37-year-old woman may have had a medical problem Thursday afternoon when the SUV she was driving hit a parked car in a driveway. The accident was about 3 p.m. in the 2100 block of North Third Street. The woman was injured and taken by Acadian Ambulance to Baptist Emergency Room in Orange. Officer B.P. Latiolais reported that Shelly Savant Risinger was driving a Dodge Durango westbound on North Farragut. The SUV swerved off the roadway of Farragut and then got back onto the road. The SUV ran a stop sign at Farragut and Third Street and hit a Ford Crown Victoria that was parked at a driveway of a house.
