Weekly Fishing Report Week of July 2, 2025
Sam Rayburn
GOOD. Water stained; 86 degrees; 0.49 feet above pool. Freshwater is still entering the lake from the river, and water is being released. Topwater bass bite is early in the morning and evening. Bass are deeper on points, drains and humps with crankbaits and Carolina rigs. Crappie are good on brush piles, but many undersized fish and bluegill to sift through. Catfish are good in 18-20 feet of water on cut bait. A few white bass are schooling on main lake points. Cast baits to shade. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service. Anticipate increased boater traffic this weekend as we celebrate our Nation’s Independence Day.
Toledo Bend
GOOD. Water stained; 85 degrees; 0.66 feet below pool. Rain continues to fall with more on the way, keeping the lake just a few inches below full pool. The bass bite is holding steady, with a solid shallow water bite early in the morning and again during midday. Topwater lures are producing at daylight, while midday action has been best in thick vegetation using popping frogs and flipping beaver-style baits in heavy pads and bushes. Deeper fish are being caught on Texas rigs and big crankbaits along main lake ridges in 12-24 feet of water. Crappie fishing has slowed with the heat and high water, with the best reports coming from anglers fishing at night under lighted docks or using floating flood lights–live bait is outperforming jigs. Report by Stephen Johnston, Johnston Fishing. Anticipate increased boater traffic this weekend as we celebrate our Nation’s Independence Day.
SALTWATER
Sabine Lake
GOOD. 85 degrees. Sabine Lake is muddy and fresh with primarily smaller size catches of trout. Fish are stacking fish up on the south end rock piles and shell pads. Good catches of speckled trout and redfish in Sabine Channel on shell pads in 8-14 feet of water, and rock piles in 4-10 feet of water with glo chartreuse artificials during outgoing tides. Limits of speckled trout, and catches redfish in the mornings at the jetties. Then target sheepshead and drum with live shrimp on a Carolina rig. Sharks and gafftops should be in the jetties any day. Nice trout and keeper triple tail catches in 35 feet of water near the rigs. Report by Captain Randy Foreman, Captain Randy’s Guide Service Sabine Lake. Anticipate increased boater traffic this weekend as we celebrate our Nation’s Independence Day.
Bolivar
GOOD. 79 degrees. Beautiful fishing for the next week. The tides are changing back to two tide days this weekend coming in during the morning, and water levels drop in the afternoon with the outgoing tides. Water temperatures are hanging in the upper 70s. Water levels are slow-moving back and forth with a moderate amount of sargassum washing in on the surf. People are catching plenty of redfish, gafftop, and black drum everywhere. There is plenty of keeper speckled trout being caught along with sand trout, sheepshead, and crabs caught along the jetty. The bigger stingrays and sharks are definitely in full swing, and a few close to state records have been landed. Report by Captain Shane Rilat, North Jetty Bait Camp.
