The Orange Historic Preservation Commission now has enough members to conduct a meeting and will deal with demolitions and decorative street lights on Tuesday, March 19.
The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. in the city’s Neighborhood Facilities Building, 303 Eighth Street. It will be the first time the group has met since August because the five-member commission had only two members. Last month, the Orange City Council appointed Alan Mesecher to the commission, giving the group a quorum. Two vacancies are still left.
The Historic Preservation Commission oversees demolitions and exterior changes in the Old Orange Historic District.
The Tuesday meeting will have a discussion on decorative street lights and whether more can be available. About 20 years ago, when the city first established the district, old-fashioned street lights were made available for homeowners.
Now, some of the homeowners in the district are interested in getting similar lights.
The commission will also look at issuing certificates of appropriateness for demolition of a building at 509 Sixth Street. Also, the Church of Christ at 501 Ninth Street wants to replace the exterior windows with energy efficient ones.
