
Junior Alexus Henry smashed her own school record in the indoor high jump and moved to No. 2 in the NCAA this season to highlight day one of action at Texas A&M’s Charlie Thomas Invitational.
Henry cleared 6-1 ¼ (1.86m) while competing in the event during the pentathlon. She surpassed her old record (5-11 ½) set in 2016 by nearly two inches. She is the first UTA female to top the 6-foot mark indoor or outdoor.
The top 16 individuals after the regular season and conference meets are completed will qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships March 9-10 in College Station. Last year’s cut-off height was 6-0 ½.
The native of Bridge City, ultimately finished sixth in the pentathlon with 3,249 points. She was on pace to break her school record in that event (3,666) as well until she had to drop out of the final event, the 800 meters.
