A new HEB grocery store will be coming to Pinehurst. Officials with the HEB Grocery Company met with the Pinehurst City Council Tuesday night to work out an economic development incentive agreement. Harry Vine of the City of Pinehurst has worked closely with HEB to get them to come to his city. Vine said the new store will be going into the old Sears location in the MacArthur Shopping Center and will be 68,000 square feet or possibly larger. Vine did indicate the process of bringing the new store to Pinehurst will take two to three years. He was told the store will employee between 250 to 300 workers.
Alderman Dan Barclay is likewise excited about the decision from HEB to come to Pinehurst. He recognized the outstanding reputation enjoyed by HEB which has been in the greater Orange area for several years. Barclay was proud that the company chose Pinehurst to expand their operations in the area. “This is a good thing for the entire area not just for the City of Pinehurst. We’re proud to have them to consider that. We hope this project finishes the way they anticipate and we anticipate and look forward to working with them,” Barclay stated.
Officials couldn’t confirm whether it would be an HEB Plus store, nor did they know what would happen to the current location on 16th Street.
The Pinehurst City Council also approved amending an ordinance designating a reinvestment zone for the city. The boundaries of the zone will extend along MacArthur Drive from 28th Street to Adams Bayou.
With the re-worked Orange County Economic Development Corporation many of the local entities have been allowed to appoint two members to the board of directors. City Administrator Robbie Hood has been the Pinehurst representative. Tuesday night Alderman Dan Mohon was selected by the city council to be Pinehurst’s second member on the board.
The city council approved a similar resolution to the one approved by the other municipalities in the county opposing Orange County financing any TxDOT roadway. The resolutions have been aimed at cutting any funding of the proposed Loop 299 project in Vidor.
Waxman and Associates was selected as the grant administrator for a Community Development Block Grant project in Pinehurst. Schaumburg and Polk was chosen as the engineers for that project.
The city council approved two local agreements with City of Orange. The first was to extend the contract with the consultant handling restoration funding from British Petroleum. The second will allow Pinehurst to utilize the regional radio system in Orange for primary emergency dispatching.
