Through four innings neither the Bridge City Lady Cards or Hardin-Jefferson had come close to scoring. That changed in the fifth.
With two on base, HJ catcher Mackenzie Comeaux parked a 1-0 pitch from Austyn Daniels over the left field fence for a 3-0 lead. Then in the seventh, BC intentionally walked Comeaux to face Tammy Trailor and she made them pay with a ball to the wall that scored Comeaux to make it a 4-0 lead.
BC would wake up their crowd with a sac fly RBI from Madison Melton and an infield hit by Kaylyn Dosch to score Kyndall Harrison and make it 4-2. But that’s as close as the Lady Cards would get.
HJ starter Cheyenne Lee went the distance, giving up the two runs on five hits with just one strikeout and two walks. BC started Daniels who struck out seven and held the Hawks to just three hits. The third hit was the HR and Coach Kayla Gallardo pulled her after the homerun. Madison Melton came in and gave up one run on two hits in the final 2.1 innings.
Both teams are now 2-2 in district. BC will go to LCM on Tuesday.
