The City Council in Bridge City welcomed a new face Tuesday while it also had an empty chair that will need to be filled. Danny Harrington took part in his first council meeting as an alderman. Harrington was appointed to replace Eric Andrus who resigned from his Place 4 position when he moved outside the city limits of Bridge City.
Andrus and Kirk Roccaforte were in attendance for the meeting. Roccaforte resigned from his council seat last week to be appointed the County Commissioner for Precinct 3. A replacement for Roccaforte in Place 2 is expected to be named on Wednesday, July 24.
The council dealt mainly with the business of a Community Development Block Grant during the meeting. Signatories for the city were approved. Traylor and Associates was approved to serve as the grant administrator. LJA Engineering was selected to handle the engineering work to be done for the grant.
Bridge City is working to get a major ditch clearing project started in the city. Jerry Jones the City Manager said the city is waiting on the state to determine which ditches will be covered in the project.
Funding for three different projects is available, but the grant did not provide funding for engineering services on two of the three. Bridge City reapplied or appealed for the grants and is waiting on confirmation of which ditches the city will be allowed to do work before bidding the work on all three. “They’ve given us a list of the ones that we can do, but we’re not sure that they’re going to approve the others because they have to have engineering on those too so we’ll see what that list turns out to be,” Jones concluded.
Mayor Pro-Tem Terri Gauthier was selected to replace Roccaforte as a city council representative for Bridge City with the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission. Gauthier will be considered by the Commission to serve on its Executive Committee.
