The Commissioners Court held its weekly meeting Tuesday and adjourned in less than thirty minutes. Maintenance Director Kurt Guidry provided updates on items related to the recovery from the Imelda Natural Disaster and from Tropical Storm Harvey.
Under Imelda recovery Guidry told the Commissioners that repairs are moving along on the Raymond Gould Community Center in Vidor. Guidry said the contractor Spawglass predicts the center should be ready by Friday, February 7, for use by the county.
His report on the commissioner’s office building in Mauriceville was not as positive. Guidry informed Commissioner Theresa Beauchamp that remediation of the building for the mold found in the ceiling of the building that will serve as her office will postpone the other repairs, but the length of the delay is not known. Guidry estimated it would take at least a month for all the repairs to the building that was flooded during Harvey.
Scarborough Construction is handling the repairs to the building on Highway 62. The contractor will remove the sheet rock ceiling with the mold in it. After dirt is spread to raise the base a new floor will be laid in the building. Guidry quoted the price given by a company for the remediation of the mold and replacing the floor as $15,000.
The Maintenance Department is doing the repairs to the Claiborne West Park. Two doors are being installed this week and will then be painted which will leave just stripping and waxing the floor for the office at the park to be complete.
All the metal work is done on the three pavilions at the park. A urinal was replaced in one of the pavilions, and new hand dryers are being installed. Guidry said the repairs at Claiborne West have cost $33,000 with $12,000 of that covered by insurance. The next step will be work on the water and sewers to determine where the lines are leaking.
The Emergency Management Department was approved $12,948.28 to cover the cost of roll-off boxes and transporting contaminated soil to OMI Environmental Solutions. This is the second payment for environmental cleanup of a spill on Tulane Road last year. Emergency Management Coordinator Joel Ardoin said the county was charged for the cleanup by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality because the perpetrator of the spill could not be determined.
