
The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Gloria Jean Carter, 87, of Orange, will be Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, at 11am, under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home.
Rites of Christian Burial will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9 until 11am.
Gloria Jean Allen Carter was born to Ideria (Nash) Allen and Willie Allen, Sr. on July 19, 1938, in San Augustine, Texas.
In 1945 the family moved to Orange and united with the Evergreen Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor I. J. Randall. Gloria attended Emma H. Wallace High School, graduating in the Class of 1960.
On Thursday, September 4th, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her children, God, in HIS infinite wisdom and never-failing compassion, called “Mama” home.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory five sons, Vaughn Allen and Darrell Carter of Houston, Texas, Karl Allen and Quencilyn Carter (Kimberly) both of Orange and Tony Carter of Dallas, Texas, one daughter, Shelia Carter McCoy (Paul) of Houston, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one brother, Walter G. Allen of Houston, one sister, Margie Degay (James) of Orange, and 2 God children, Ronald Jason Degay and Ronald Jeremaine Degay, both of Orange.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Willie G. Allen, Clinton and Clyde Allen (fraternal twins), Thearon Allen and Sherman Allen and three sisters, Lucinda Allen, Lee Fairy Allen and Verlie Allen.
