Orange is the east side of the Wild West. There’s been more shoot-outs on Front Street than in Tombstone, Arizona.
The rowdies and respectables of Orange who frequented the saloons downtown also carried guns. Pistols were popular. Sometimes the Winchester was brandished. Shotguns were not unusual.
On Saturday, nearly 500 people walked through downtown Orange to hear the stories of local gunfights and feuds, along with information about buildings and events from the past.
The event was the Fifth Annual Historic Ghost Walk sponsored by Heritage House Museum of Orange County. More than 70 high school drama students from Vidor, Bridge City, and Orangefield dressed in costumes and gave dramatic presentations of the history stories.
Heritage House hosted a small festival with food, wine, and baked goods sold on new deck of the museum grounds. Families were able to sit in the sunset as children played lawn games and made crafts.
The activities gave people a relaxing, fun way to wait for before their scheduled walking tour.
