Gene Allen Smith was born September 2, 1963, and passed November 27, 2025, at the age of 62.
Gene was never happier than when he was out on the water or deep in the woods. Fishing at sunrise, tracking the quiet paths of the forest, and swapping stories around a campfire were moments he cherished. But above all his outdoor adventures, hunting gator was his greatest thrill. It was more than a sport to him, it was a tradition, an adrenaline rush, and a connection to the wild he loved so much.
Those who knew him will remember his easy laugh, steady patience, and the way he could tell a story so vividly you felt like you were right there beside him. He lived boldly, loved fiercely, and left an imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Horton; stepchildren, Angela Aaron, Dustin Aaron, and Justin Aaron; siblings, Elizabeth O’Neal and Cullin Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by his parents, Dorine McEwin Smith and Arthur Cullin Smith, Sr.
Cremation was entrusted to Dorman-Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 8808 Highway 87 North, Orange, Texas.
