Gayle “GG” George Peveto passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Magnolia Manor in Groves, Texas.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at JW’s Patio in Beaumont, Texas.
Gayle was born on May 14, 1935, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to Guy Havard George and Anna Mae Herrin George.
A proud graduate of Bolton High School, Gayle went on to attend Louisiana Tech University, where she majored in Music. She pledged Alpha Chi Omega and carried the spirit and sisterhood of that bond with her throughout her life.
Gayle began her professional career as a secretary at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Houston, Texas. Life later brought her and her family to Orange, Texas, where she worked at First National Bank before becoming secretary to the Dean at Lamar State College of Orange. Thanks to her warmth, professionalism, and excellent interpersonal skills, she was later hired by DuPont, where she proudly worked for over 25 years.
After retirement, Gayle continued to stay active and involved in her community. She helped run the gift shop at Orange Memorial Hospital—though she never really considered it “work” since she got to shop (always for a bargain, of course). A true lover of the performing arts, she also volunteered countless weekends at the Lutcher Theater in Orange.
Gayle was a devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church in Orange, TX and later joined the Cowboy Church in Call, TX. She treasured her church family deeply, especially Brother Johnny Granger. While heaven gained a faithful soul, Pepper’s Hair Salon lost one of its most fervent supporters. Rest assured, on Friday at 1:00pm, Gayle’s head was in the shampoo bowl.
In her later years, she kept her mind sharp, balancing checkbooks, solving word search puzzles, and staying impeccably organized – especially her purse. At 5 o’clock sharp, she could often be found enjoying her Carlo Rossi Sweet Red Wine paired with a handful of honey roasted peanuts.
Gayle had a rare gift of making everyone feel special. Gayle loved deeply and truly lived each day by her favorite quote: “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift—that’s why they call it the present.”
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, David Monroe Peveto.
She is survived by her brother, Guy George and his wife, Kay of Gainesville, TX; her sister, Elaine King of Fort Worth, TX; her daughter, Anna Peveto of Lumberton, TX; her grandchildren, Mykal Benefield and her husband, Michael of Nederland, TX; Joshua Romano and his wife, Addie of Beaumont, TX; Jakob Brackin of Beaumont, TX; Kane and Zane Peveto of Bridge City, TX; Eric Brackin, Scott Brackin, Kevin Brackin, Colby Brackin; and her great grandchildren, Heidi Gayle Benefield; Hallie Jo Benefield; Jonah Joseph Romano; Jude Gracen Romano.
