Deweyville’s Rio Garcia is the KOGT Athlete of the Week sponsored by First Financial Bank.
Garcia dominated at the 2A Regional Powerlifting Meet where he won the 123 pound division setting four new records. He squatted 390, benched 250, deadlifted 405 and also set the total mark. Garcia has set higher goals for the State Meet next week in Abilene and we wouldn’t bet against him.
“Rio is a great kid,” said Athletic Director Brandon Prouse. “He’s had to battle some adversity in his young life and I think he’s using that to push him in the weight room. He’s there everyday trying to get better and you can’t ask for more than that. He’s inspired some of our other guys because he’s lifting more than them and they’re twice his size. I couldn’t be more proud of him and I love how excited he was when he learned he won this award.”
Good luck at State, Rio!
