Wednesday at least one Bridge City football player posted a picture of a West Orange-Stark football player on social media and made a statement underneath the photo using the “N” word to describe him. The post was quickly spread around the internet. After learning of the post, BC Athletic Director Dwayne Dubois responded quickly with the following statement. The Cardinals host the Mustangs Friday night.
September 8, 2016
As the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach of Bridge City, I would like to formally and publically apologize for the inappropriate and insulting picture and words created and sent out by at least two Bridge City football players. My apologies go first to Mr. Brown. It is with a sincere heart I ask your forgiveness on behalf of our entire organization. Also, I extend an earnest apology to every WOS Mustang athlete, Coach Thompson and the entire coaching staff, all Mustang fans and supporters, as well as the West-Orange Stark community. What was created is highly offensive. It absolutely does not represent Bridge City ISD, Bridge City Athletics nor the community of Bridge City. Once every single culprit is determined, there will be severe consequences. And personal apologies will be made. This is completely unacceptable and will be dealt with swiftly and seriously.
Again, please accept my apology.
Coach Dwayne DuBois
About 9:30am this morning, WOCove Supt. Rickie Harris responded:
We are communicating with Bridge City ISD school officials and appreciate the apology of their administrative team regarding this situation, as well as their assurance that the students responsible will be held accountable.
We do believe the comments are isolated and do not represent Bridge City ISD or the greater Bridge City community.
As a school district, we request that WOCCISD students and the Mustang Family refrain from giving further attention to this negativity and concentrate on our vision of Empowering Lives through Excellence Every Day.
