
The West Orange-Stark Mustangs did not hold back Friday night with the playoffs starting next week, as they outmanned the Orangefield Bobcats 60-0 to claim the district title outright.
Seven different Mustangs scored including two punt returns for touchdowns by Jaron Morris. Jack Dallas threw four touchdown passes in the first half (KJ Miller 2, Keion Hancock, Rufus Joseph). Mandel King had a short touchdown and Jeremiah Shaw ran one in from 10.
As good as the offense was the defense was probably better, allowing OF just 71 yards of offense. Their longest play from scrimmage was a 7 yard quarterback sneak on a fourth and one play.
WOS will play Tarkington on Thursday at The Butch in Beaumont as the Mustangs begin defense of their 4A D2 title. The Bobcats will play Bellville (8-2, 4-0) the 11-4A D2 champs, on Saturday at 6pm at Texans Drive Stadium in Porter, Texas.
Bridge City left no doubt that they are the best team in 10-4A D1 after a convincing 56-14 win at Huffman. The Cards (7-2, 5-0) got three interceptions from Zach Honeycutt while the offense churned for almost 500 yards. Once again Cayce Draper, Patrick Morris and Max Baker all rushed for more than 100 yards in the victory.
BC will play Center on Friday at 7:30 at Splendora HS.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville improved to 2-0 in overtime games this season as they held off Navasota 42-41 in double overtime. The game see-sawed back and forth. Neither team scored in the first overtime and in the second overtime, the Bears scored first. Navasota responded with a touchdown and elected to go for two at home and the Bears defense held, giving them the third place spot in 10-4A behind BC and Silsbee.
LCM will open the playoffs Friday in Crockett against Henderson at 7:30pm.
