Vidor vs Barbers Hill
Tonight the WOS Running Lady Mustangs went on the road and beat the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns 50-37. This game saw West Orange Stark getting ahead early until the twin towers B’JNE’ Arvie and Malandria Hebert got into early foul trouble causing them to sit most of the first half. The game for the first half would be close going into halftime with the Running Lady Mustangs holding at 3 point advantage 28-25.
Early in the 3rd quarter Hebert would pickup her 4th foul which would leave her sitting again. However, the Running Lady Mustang guards would finally take over. Keshaunia Winbush would orchestrate the offense ending the game with 9 assist along with 8 points. A lot of those assist went to the walking double double B’Jne Arvie who had 14 points and 13 rebounds with 9 points coming in the second half. Aniah Henderson would pick up Hebert’s scoring load with great cuts to the bucket and either finishing with the bucket or hitting key free throws down the stretch. She was 5/6 from the charity stripe in the 4th quarter finishing with 11 points.
Gabby Tims would have another great performance handling the ball, rebounding and scoring. She sealed the deal with 2:45 left in the 4th when she hit a big 3 to give the Lady Mustangs a double digit lead. Tims finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Hebert would come back in the game with limited minutes and still have 5 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Coach Wilson said “it was great to see the guard play continues to improve. When our big girls went down the guards had to carry the load and they did”. Brakhia White, Halle Brown, and Libni Hermossilio came in and played great defense to give the Mustangs the lift we needed in the first half. Temecia Adams saw limited minutes due to a sprained ankle and Naudia Watson who has been big all year long sat out the whole game nursing an ankle to.
Coach Wilson said “it was a good win that he had been worried about all week after the Silsbee game. He said the Mustangs had bad practices Wednesday and Thursday along with girls being injured he knew it would be a battle”. The Lady Mustangs will be back in action on Tuesday January 14th at home against #3 Hardin Jefferson.
