Always a physical matchup when Orangefield and Buna get together and it was no different Friday night. The Lady Bobcats jumped out to a 26-9 halftime lead and stayed undefeated in district with a 49-31 win. For OF: Faith Fregia 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals; Tatum Garlington 10 points and 10 rebounds; Emmi Lummus 4 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds; Jayce Bourque 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 steals; Jayme Deutsch 9 rebounds and 5 blocks.
LCM defeated WOS 57-32. Four Lady Bears in double figures with Karly Rogers scoring 18 and pulling down 12 boards; Britney Wyatt added 10 and 13. Chelsea Perry had 10 points and 7 steals and Brielle Butler added 10 points. LCM is 4-2 in district.
BC defeated Lumberton 51-48. BC was lead by Madison Fischer 15 points, Kyndall Harrison 10 points, Hannah Wiegreffe 10 rebounds. Lumberton’s high scorer was Hudrey Potula with 22. BC is 19-10 and 3-3 while the Raiders drop to 2-4.
Deweyville won 71-10 over Bob Hope. Jada Freeland and Aleigha Raymer each had 23 points, Brooke Sims had 11, Jocelyn Reed 4, Maggie LaVergne, Chloe Landry, Reagan Chance, Payton Waldrum, and Lacie McCollough each had 2 points. Sophomore Chesleigh Hamilton contributed in the win playing stellar defense for the Lady Pirates. Deweyville returns to district play Tuesday vs Hull Dasietta at home. Both teams are undefeated in district play.
Vidor lost a tough one to PNG 48-37. The Lady Pirates fall to 2-4 in district.
BOYS
WOS beat LCM in OT 70-68 (see separate story)
OF lost to Buna 60-59. The Bobcats fought back from a double digit deficit to take the lead late. But after a missed FT Buna took the ball down and scored with 18 seconds left for the win. Coy Bryant had 20 for OF and Valentin Catt had 19 and 12 rebounds after missing most of the first half with foul trouble.
BC hit two free throws with .02 seconds left to tie their game with Lumberton. After the second FT was made BC was called for a technical foul after a player on the bench ran onto the court. Lumberton then hit two FT’s to win 41-39.
Deweyville beat Bob Hope 73-43. Ethan Willett led DV with 20 and Ty Collier added 14 as all eight Pirates scored in the game. The Pirates open district at home Tuesday vs HD.
Vidor fell to PNG 42-38 after leading most of the game. The Pirates are now 0-4 in district.
Thursday
The OF JH boys basketball traveled to Hardin and came away with two impressive wins from the A teams.
7th A won 41-12 Leading the way with efficient 3 point shooting was Caleb Fregia and Kane Smith.
8th A won 45-21 with a stellar performance from Brady Anderson scoring 16 points.
The boys travel to Hardin Jefferson this weekend to compete in the SETX open courts tournament.
