Weekly Fishing Report Week of April 10, 2024
Toledo Bend
GOOD. Water slightly stained; 64 degrees. Bass are fair but many smaller fish are getting to the bait before the bigger fish because the water is warm. Most fish are coming from 2-7 feet of water with weightless senkos, wacky worms and light Texas rigged lizards. Finally a few fish showing up in 8-14 feet, these fish spawned in February or early March. Cast shallow running crankbaits and Carolina rigs. Crappie fishing has been hit-and-miss while fish are spawning and post-spawn. Report by Stephen Johnston, Johnston Fishing.
Sam Rayburn
GOOD. Water stained; 70 degrees; 6.45 feet below pool. The lake continues to be turbid, so navigate with caution to avoid sandbars and stumps. Bass are spawning in the grass lines in 4-15 feet of water biting crankbaits. Crappie bite is good in the shallows and slow on the brush piles. Some crappie are spawning near cypress trees, wade anglers can target these. White bass are schooling on main lake points with jigs, minnows, crankbaits and jigging spoons. Catfish are in the creeks spawning in 4-8 feet of water, and slowing back to the main lake. Report by Captain Lynn Atkinson, Reel Um N Guide Service. Shad spawn is in full swing. Bass are good keying on hard clay points, grass edges and flooded timber with swim jigs, chatterbaits, topwater spooks or pop-r’s. Offshore bite is 10-20 feet on hard spots and flats, points and creek channel swings using crankbaits, Carolina rigs, shaky heads and dropshots. Crappie have finished spawning in 12-20 feet of water on brush piles and standing timber. Report by Captain Hank Harrison, Double H Precision Fishing.

GOOD. 70 degrees. The water clarity and color are murky due to the weather changes and high winds. The best bite conditions this week will be on the incoming tides for the jetty and surf. Plenty of redfish of varying sizes, stingrays, sheepshead, black drum, small slot speckled trout, and crabs caught along the jetty with an occasional pompano. The surf is producing black drum, gafftop, stingrays, and small bonnet head and spinner sharks with reports of some big fish breaking off lines. East Bay and the Texas City Dike have been steady producing drum, gafftop, small trout, and redfish. Report by Captain Shane Rilat, North Jetty Bait Camp.
