Chief David Frenzel has been with the Orange Fire Department 50 years, but he never had all the keys. Until Thursday afternoon.
Mayor Larry Spears Jr. presented the chief with a framed “key to the city” in honor of his half century with the city. The presentation was part of a reception at Central Station honoring the chief on his Golden Anniversary.
Deputy Chief Lee Anne Brown gave her boss a 50-year service pin and Frenzel’s wife, Hildy, pinned it on his uniform. Interim City Manager Kelvin Knauf gave the chief a plaque commemorating the special anniversary.
Frenzel said he does not plan to retire at this time because he loves his job and he has more things he wants to do for the department.
