
Former Orange City Council member Jeff Holland was found dead Saturday at his home in Houston. Holland, who was an engineer, also worked as the general manager for the Mauriceville Water and Utility District.
Holland was elected to the Orange City Council in 2008 as the first representative from the then newly-annexed part of north Little Cypress. He also served as mayor pro tem in 2010. He resigned from the council in February 2012. Holland was 50 years old.
The Orange City Council Tuesday will vote on giving $60,000 in economic development money to a company turning a downtown building on Front Street into offices. The notice of the public hearing says the grant is “related to infrastructure improvements.
Bates & Company, along with the HT Group, currently has offices in a shopping center on MacArthur Drive in Pinehurst. The companies are owned by former Orange resident James Gilliam, the son of the late mayor Jim Gilliam.
Orange County Appraisal District records show JDG Assets LLC bought the building in January. The appraised value is $73,632.
The City Economic Development Corporation board of directors will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday to vote on the grant. The city council meets at 5:30 p.m. and will vote on the final approval. The meetings are in the council auditorium next to the Orange Public Library.
The EDC board has met in closed-door executive session concerning the details of the deal.
