The Orange Fire Department was called to the Fox Run Apartments on Allie Payne Rd. Thursday around 1:30pm after someone reported smoke coming from the second floor of Building 3.
Firefighters entered the apartment to find a male and female who got out. The fire was coming from the kitchen area and the search for anyone else in the home continued. Two firefighters found a child in the blaze and got him out. Believed to be around four years old, he was taken by Acadian Ambulance to a medical helicopter that landed in the field near Little Cypress Junior High.
“It was a great save by Captain Joel Gilbert and Firefighter Tyler Roberts,” said Battalion Chief Joe Mires. “The child received second and third degree burns, but he is expected to survive.” Mires said the child was taken to a burn unit in Galveston.
The exact cause is still under investigation but believed to have started in the kitchen area. The unit below and those on each side suffered smoke and water damage.
