The City Council awarded a contract for water filter equipment to be installed in three Bridge City water wells Tuesday evening. Simco Enterprises will handle the installation of water filtration equipment in the water wells at a cost of just under half a million dollars.
City Manager Jerry Jones said this is another step Bridge City is taking to resolve the brown water problem in the city. Jones indicated the project started last summer with the installation of the actual filters which is almost completed. Bridge City has improved the situation with the brown water, and the city hopes that having these filter systems in place will then allow the brown water in the pipes to be flushed. Jones believes this should eventually eliminate the brown water problem.
The city manager predicted it will take two to three months for the equipment to all be in place. Jones informed the City Council that the cost of the filtration equipment was more than $278,000 above what was originally anticipated, but several other projects have been completed under their estimated cost and the difference will be made up with those extra funds available.
Two ordinances were approved by the City Council Tuesday. The first will include Bridge City in the regulatory proceedings being conducted by other municipalities against Entergy Texas Incorporated with the Public Utility Commission in Austin. The second ordinance was amended to identify persons who would be listed as sex offenders in Bridge City. The amendment will now include those tried in juvenile cases for the same offenses as an adult.
The City Council approved the city’s audit submitted by Keri Michutka for the 2015 Fiscal Year. Michutka said overall it was a good clean audit for Bridge City informing the council that the city’s reserves were $586,000 as of September 30, 2015.
